Is Your Medicine Cabinet Missing the Original Natural Antibiotic?

Posted by Nurse Mary on 8th Jun 2026

Have you ever wondered if there’s a natural way to support your body during the toughest months of the year, without always reaching for conventional medicine? We often look for the newest, most complex solutions to our health challenges, but sometimes the most powerful tools are the ones that have been used for centuries.

There is one “hot” oil that many people keep tucked away, but it deserves a front-and-center spot in your wellness arsenal. It’s not just a pantry staple for spaghetti sauce—it is a potent, cleansing powerhouse that can transform how you handle seasonal threats. One that is very important to have in your natural medicine cabinet.

Oregano Essential Oil

The Italian Secret for Cold and Flu Season

Oregano essential oil is one of my personal favorite tools to use as a natural detox. It fights fungus, bacteria, and can be used as a natural antibiotic – making it an incredible home remedy.

I personally love using it during the Cold and Flu season. My go-to method is simple: I put 2 or 3 drops in an empty capsule and take it by mouth. I always stick to the doTERRA brand because it is therapeutic grade, which is essential when you are using something internally.

Now, a little word of caution: Oregano is what we call a “HOT” oil. You can use it topically, but you must always dilute it with a carrier oil like Fractionated coconut oil, because it can burn the skin if used straight. I’ve had clients make a roller blend to use on their feet to help boost their immune system or fight foot fungus. Just be aware—you might smell a little bit Italian using it this way!

Oregano isn’t just for immune support; it’s one of the most potent essential oils available. Its primary chemical component, carvacrol, is a phenol that provides those antioxidant properties we need when ingested. Because it’s so strong, you only need a small amount—one or two drops is plenty for diffusion or internal support.
