Garden Fresh: The Simplest Way to Boost Your Nutrition

There is something inherently satisfying about walking into your garden, picking fresh herbs, and turning them into a meal (or in this case, a drink). In the height of summer, many of us are looking for fresh ways to celebrate and nourish our bodies.
The secret to a great smoothie? It’s simpler than you think. You don’t need a complicated recipe; you just need fresh, seasonal ingredients.
Why Garden Fresh?
When you pick herbs and vegetables fresh, you ensure you’re getting the most potent, rich flavors and the highest nutrient density. In our recent “Garden Fresh Smoothie” experiment, we used a variety of ingredients found right in our garden:
- The Greens: Swiss Chard and Kale provide a solid, nutrient-dense base.
- The Herbs: We incorporated Dill, Fennel, Cilantro, and Basil. A quick tip: if you’re using stronger herbs like Cilantro, you might want to start with a smaller amount to balance the flavor.
- The Flavor: Blueberries added natural sweetness, along with coconut milk and a touch of Stevia.

The beauty of this approach is that it’s customizable. If you’re feeling adventurous, try swapping in spinach, lettuce, or mustard greens. If you prefer a savory, spicy profile over a sweet one, experiment with celery, cucumber, avocado, and even a bit of fresh peppermint.
