Hello my friend,
She always made a point of using "unbleached flour" and real butter in her cookies. I don't know what it is about it, but real butter just makes homemade cakes and cookies so much better!
There is something to be said for "homemade", even if it isn't all healthy. It has to be better for you than what comes out of a box, right? I there were very few box mixes in my Mom's kitchen, growing up.

I remember such wonderful times cooking in the kitchen with my mom. Sometimes it was digging through my Grandma's recipes to see if there was anything different we wanted to make that year. This is such a great way to pass down those recipes from generation to generation.
When we made cut-out cookies, all the children would gathered around the table. Mom would apply the white frosting and the kids would decorate them with colored sprinkles, red hots, and all kinds of things. Those were fun times of laughing and talking and using our creativity together around the kitchen table.
